3 Stars Works well, doesn’t sound so good
The AT&T 1739 is called, in its text and reviews, the machine to go for, if you want an answering machine that is separate from any phone receiver. That was my goal, and I went for this unit.
The controls and operation of the 1739 are a dream. It works very well, and does just what you’d want, quite intuitively. However. The audio quality of the recorded voices is, at best, mediocre. I think the problem here is that the compression of the recorded sound loses too much data. The result is a mushy sound that subverts intelligibility. This is evident right away in the greeting message you record. The recording of messages from good-quality wired phones are good enough to be usable. But messages from cell phones, which are themselves fidelity-challenged, often come out a hard-to-understand mush.
Unfortunately, I can’t rate this machine any higher than 3 stars.

I would recommend this answering machine to everyone. It is the best answering machine we have ever had. The messages are loud and clear and very easy to set up
1 Star DID EVERYTHING BUT ANSWER
This was an easy to set up and program answering machine…..Worked fine for 3 days then it just quit answering…..I reset the thing. Un plugged it for days….and replugged it…. To no avail…. But Amazon customer service was fantastic….They replaced it ….. Sent the replacement next day shipping….. I guess I will find out more about the product when I receive the replacement.
